Steven began DJing in 1992, hosting a world music show on KRSM 93.3 FM in Dallas, Texas. Later, he hosted an electronic music show on WAKE internet radio while earning a BA at Wake Forest University. Since moving to the Research Triangle, Steven has played at a variety of area venues, including Ringside, Talulla’s, Bogart’s, Fuse, Art Space, and Café Driade. He has also helped create a number of weekly and monthly events, including Descanso (Helios), Variations In House (Red Room), We All Love House (Aries), Rendezvous (Riviera), and currently Discotheque (Mosaic), and has performed at the SignalFest Electronic Music Festival in Chapel Hill. He has also played internationally, including sets at Thirst Bar (London, UK), and Orange Corner (Ibiza, Spain). In addition to DJing, Steven has spent many years researching and performing music. During grade school, he completed several Europan tours with the St. Mark's Choir, performing in such venues at Notre Dame (Paris) and St. Paul’s Cathedral (London), and joined the Texas State Choir. At Wake Forest, he joined the University Chorus, performing alongside Maya Angelou during the musical premier of her poem, “On The Pulse of Morning.” He then focused on ethnomusicology while earning his MA in Liberal and Latin American Studies at Duke and Oxford Universities, researching genres including Jazz, Salsa, Merengue, Qawwali, Samba, and Reggaeton, and completing an award-winning graduate project on Afro-Brazilian and South Asian religious music. Steven’s eclectic sets reflect many years spent around music, as well as time spent touring, living, and studying in locations such as Mexico, Spain and the UK. True to his love of exploring new sounds and challenging peoples' ideas of electronic and world music, he often performs alongside live musicians, professional dancers, and martial artists. Currently, Steven serves as Resident DJ and Music Director at Mosaic Wine et Lounge and Solas, both located in the Glenwood South district of North Carolina's Research Triangle. He also owns SonVedra, LLC, an audio consulting and DJ services company based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and serves on the planning committee for “ Across The Threshold”, an international academic conference exploring religion, art, healing, and music, to be held at Duke University in March, 2009.
